CoastWalk  

Since 1984 Kachemak Bay CoastWalk has documented the shifting state of the bay while removing debris from our beaches and waterways. you can help the effort by joining one of the community cleanups that take place every Saturday during the season, or adopting a zone of your own!  sign up for a community cleanup right here for cleanups right in Homer or across the bay.  To adopt one of the 32 CoastWalk Zones email Henry@akcoastalstudies.org or come by the Coastal Studies office to pick up a zone adoption packet in person.  

This year we have 5 community cleanups planned 

September 5th- CoastWalk kickoff and Bishop's Beach Cleanup- 10:00- 2:00 - starting off the CoastWalk season with event and zone sign ups, food, games, and cleanup at the Bishop's Beach Pavilion.

September 12th- Pier One Beach Tidepool and Cleanup- 9:00- 12:00- Start by exploring the intertidal at this -2 tide, then clean the beaches around it.  

September 19th- Diamond Creek to Homer -  9:30- 5:30- This cleanpu covers a large stretch of beach that sees few visitors, but recieves washed up debris.  The cleanup covers over 7 miles from the start at Diamond Creek to the end at Bishop's Beach for our longest community cleanup.

September 26th- Glacier Spit- 10:00- 4:00- Located on the south side of Kachemak Bay Glacier Spit recieves many visitors, and catches debris washing in.  Transportaion for this cleanup is provided by Mako's Water Taxi, and the cleanpu is limited to 12 participant.

October 3rd- Mud Bay to Miller's Landing- 10:00- 3:00- start at mud bay and clean to Miller's Landing on the Beach below Kachemak drive.  With little public access this area must be done in one stretch.
